5 Of The Best Free Pro Tools Plug Ins

These are what I think are 5 of the best free plug ins that I use a lot in most of my Pro Tools sessions.

1. Valhalla Supermassive

Valhalla SuperMassive has some of the coolest and most unique reverbs and delays, I love to reach for it whenever I want something big and in your face.

2. STL Emissary

STL has some of the best guitar sims going and this completely free Sim is no aception, it's marketed as a metal amp and it does that really well but it actually has a shockingly good clean channel too. I've used this on a lot of tracks for other bands and for my own band.

3. Ozone Imager

The Ozone Imager is a stereo imager that I used for referencing other tracks against my own checking their width and then can also be used to add width to your mix.

4. Blue Cat Anylizer

As you probably already know, Pro Tools' stock EQ doesn't have a Frequency Anylizer built in, it's not a huge problem however there have defiantly been times where I felt it would be useful, so I used this free Frequency Analyser alongside the Pro Tools EQ so you can see exactly what you're doing and its also great to use it for referencing other tracks too!

5. HEAT

HEAT isn't really a plug in, it's baked right into Pro Tools, but it's now something I use on pretty much every mix. Heat is effectively a universal saturation plug in, you have just two settings, Drive and Tone and this saturation is applied to every audio track within your session. It is meant to give the feel of tracking on an analog mixing desk and I think it works really well. To access HEAT you need to head to the mixer page and hit the HEAT button in the bottom right corner. The same place the the clip list open/close button is within the arrange window.
